At the same time the club believes it is its duty to preserve the course for the nation so that all the great Championships can be hosted over its links.

The Open Championship returns in July 2013 after an eleven year interval since Ernie Els won here in 2002.

The golf architect Martin Hawtree and the R&A have reviewed the design of the course and the club membership have agreed to make changes on fifteen holes.
